The Wisconsin State Patrol is increasing air brake inspections on large trucks as part of an annual, national safety effort.
The goal of Operation Air Brake, which begins May 5, is to reduce large truck crashes and make highways safer.
The state patrol plans to work with sheriff’s departments and local police agencies across Wisconsin to step up enforcement.
In addition to checking brakes and other safety equipment on large commercial vehicles, the officers will also be checking drivers’ compliance with safety regulations.
Last year, the patrol says it inspected nearly 400 commercial vehicles and put 27 percent out of service for brake and other safety violations.
