A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit that a South Dakota couple filed against the U.S. Forest Service over two disabled gold mines in the Black Hills.
Arron and Judy Marston said the Forest Service illegally bulldozed and gated two mines in which they own mining rights. The Hot Springs couple asked for $400,000 in damages or a court order that the mines be restored to their prior condition.
Documents filed in federal court show the government will pay $245,206 to settle the case.
