Wisconsin state insurance commissioner Ted Nickel and nine other donors to Republican Gov. Scott Walker have been accused of breaking the state’s campaign finance law.
Watchdog group the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign filed a complaint June 6 with the Government Accountability Board related to donations that exceeded the $10,000 limit allowed to be given during the campaign period.
The donations came between July 1, 2008, and the end of last year.
Nickel gave $10,255 to Walker’s campaign in three donations in 2008 and August. He was selected as insurance commissioner in January.
The state Republican Party responded on behalf of Walker’s campaign, saying it will work with the GAB on compliance. Nickel did not immediately return a message.
The largest donor was Michael White of River Hills, who gave $15,000.
