A major Illinois health insurance exchange has announced plans to double its workforce to serve those shopping for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
GoHealth LLC announced it plans to create 450 additional jobs by the end of 2013. The company plans to add 90,000 square feet in working space at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart to accommodate the workers.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn said GoHealth’s announcement is in tune with his agenda to create jobs.
GoHealth officials say the company is hiring software engineers, project managers and software architects as well as licensed benefit advisers and operations positions.
The Affordable Care Act calls for almost all Americans to have health insurance beginning in 2014 or pay a penalty.
According to the governor’s office, nearly 1.8 million Illinois residents are uninsured.
