The North Dakota Insurance Department says it helped residents recover or save nearly $4.4 million last year.
The department says the money was recovered on behalf of North Dakota residents through its hotline, complaints filed by consumers against insurance companies or agents and investigations it performed. It says that number also includes benefits received through the department’s Prescription Connect and State Health Insurance Counseling programs.
North Dakota Insurance Department Commissioner Adam Hamm says consumer protection is a top priority for the agency, and he wants residents to know they can call with any kind of insurance issue, whether it’s big or small.
The department says last year it received 190 fraud referrals, handled 13,655 phone calls, helped 161 walk-in clients and processed 172 formal complaints.
