Naperville, Ill., city officials have spent about $760,000 on rebuilding its online network three years after a cyberattack wreaked havoc.
City officials tell the Chicago Tribune insurance covered about 25 percent of the cost. Officials say there’s no evidence of stolen data.
City Manager Doug Krieger said Naperville has invested in stronger defense systems for its computer systems and online presence. He says the systems are attacked a half-a-million times a day.
The city has not disclosed documents explaining the results of an investigation that included FBI intervention. A Naperville Sun Freedom of Information request for documents remains ongoing.
Krieger did say the FBI determined the attack came from overseas. He says it appeared hackers were trying to get information on city employees.
