what a surprise. St. Louis County venue. Why don’t cabbies just join Uber?

I’ve lived in the St. Louis area over 10 years, so maybe I can help.

The answer is that the drivers can’t afford a car up to Uber specifications.
The current taxicab commission is loaded with Taxi Company reps, who charge daily ‘rent’ to drivers. Drivers have to make at least this rent in fares (~$100/day) before they see a penny. As a result, their earnings are often below the poverty line. The lawsuit above is merely the monopolistic taxi companies suing Uber by way of the sympathetic drivers.

Cab service in St. Louis is notoriously awful. You’re lucky if a cab shows up 30-45 minutes after you call for one. On a couple occasions, I was stood up entirely and had to call a different company.

I’m glad Uber is here. Maybe the cabbies will improve their crappy service for once.

The taxicab model will go the way of the BetaMax and the landline. You have provided terrible service at a high cost. A competitor offering a better service will always show up to reap the harvest of the discontented consumer. Their lawsuit is vapeware.
