It’s football! Unless there was some sort of sexual or physical abuse not mentioned here, this is a waste of taxpayer money. Next they’ll sue the fans for yelling a home team player who drops a sure touchdown pass.

Jack, I have heard coaches yelling at players my whole life when they do something stupid. They also praise them when they do something right.

As Jack said, if there was physical or sexual abuse that’s one thing. If not, then it’s official. We are raising a generation of wimps, encouraging whining, and making our children believe that when things are tough, when life is hard, sue someone. Teaching young people to endure the hardships of life is a necessity that they are being deprived of. I grew up with bullying, hazing and unfairness. No one ever got sued for it. It builds character, strength and fortitude. It’s this epidemic of hypersensitivity & coddling that is leading many youth problems. Things aren’t harder for kids than they used to be, the kids today just aren’t equipped to deal with it. And we all play into it and make it worse by forcing schools, athletic teams and parents to tip-toe and avoid offending anyone. What pisses me off the most, is that these players will probably win, which will just force schools to coddle them more.

I realize that it’s football, and that there has to be some yelling associated with coaching. It’s the humiliation and forced playing while injured I’m not so sure about. These are kids, not pros.

If a coach can not do their job without singly out a few players and treating them in a demeaning manner, then they must be a really crappy coach. If they were good at their job, they would not find it necessary to bully. And are you kidding me??? You want to bring back hazing? I don’t think it is being hypersensitive if you don’t want to die in order to join a fraternity or team. Yeah…idiot…kids died from hazing. You give someone too much power, and raised by morons (look in the mirror) , they will end up being responsible for some poor kids death.

I think you are lumping abuse in with hazing. Two different things. Hazing gone too far is obviously bad, like when people die. If you interpreted my comment to suggest differently, you didn’t read it. “The lawsuit also claims that the coaches used derogatory and demeaning terms when referring to players and pressured them to play while injured.” I don’t assume they were called racial or sexual slurs, cause that’s not what it says. I don’t assume they were forced to play with a concussion, cause that’s not what it says. If the coach told them to push through the pain and suck it up after a minor scrape and called them babies when they objected, good for the coach. If he used the “n” word to describe a kid who couldn’t play with a broken leg, he’s obviously nuts. Don’t assume facts not in the article and don’t use the worst possible scenario to justify calling someone who doesn’t an “idiot.” It just makes you look foolish.

And don’t accuse me of lumping when you clearly stated: “We are raising a generation of wimps, encouraging whining, and making our children believe that when things are tough, when life is hard, sue someone”. You are lumping and generalizing an entire generation. I believe that is the same generation that is currently entlisting in a volunteer military. Are they whiners too?
