I don’t think they will win the case, but I think this is going to cause further regulation on the online marketplace, which is shown in my link that it is needed.
Armslist does not sell firearms, just like Craigslist does not sell anything. People list guns for sale on the website and it is up to the buyer and seller to comply with federal, state, and local laws. Most states do not require background checks on private party transactions. Even in states that do require background checks on private party transactions, there is no way to prevent people from circumventing the laws if the parties to the transaction do not care about the laws or the consequences of violating them.
Everytown Research ?? Yeah, that’s a great place to get the straight scoop on any gun related issue because they don’t have an agenda. If they were a network news organization, we would call them “Everytown MSNBC”.
And no, Arms List DOES NOT SELL FIREARMS, dummy. I don’t know whether to suggest you do more research or just none at all.
Is there an issue with their methodology? Is there a small sample size issue? Did they make assumptions not based in reality? Did they ignore specific cases that would cause their results to change? Did they back into their conclusions?
Or are you dismissing them simply because they are pro gun safety and you didn’t bother to dive into everytownresearch.org/unchecked to analyze what they actually did to come to their conclusions?
When guns are criminal, only criminal will have guns…when they buy them from people who think guns should not be criminal because then only criminal will have guns…..
Some say guns kill people. Others say people kill people. I say it’s neither: people with guns kill people. So let’s keep guns out of the hands of people who will use them to kill other people.
“You don’t need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullet control. Men, we need to control the bullets, that’s right. I think all bullets should cost five thousand dollars… five thousand dollars per bullet… You know why? Cause if a bullet cost five thousand dollars there would be no more innocent bystanders.
Yeah! Every time somebody get shot we’d say, ‘Damn, he must have done something … he’s got fifty thousand dollars worth of bullets in [him].’
And people would think before they killed somebody if a bullet cost five thousand dollars. ‘Man I would blow your [..] head off…if I could afford it.’ ‘I’m gonna get me another job, I’m going to start saving some money, and you’re a dead man. You’d better hope I can’t get no bullets on layaway.’
So even if you get shot by a stray bullet, you wouldn’t have to go to no doctor to get it taken out. Whoever shot you would take their bullet back, like “I believe you got my property.”
Can’t wait for similarly minded people to sue Ford, GM, etc., for vehicle accidents, where a drunk driver killed a relative. Life is not fair, get over it.
Uh, Jim, it’s called vicarious liability and does apply in certain circumstances (mechanical defect is one example) and all but eliminated auto leasing prior to 2005.
You can tell who owns a gun just by how they post? Just because people are in favor of more robust gun controls does not mean they don’t own a firearm themselves.
1. My apologies – I did speak of “gun owner” and not “gun buyer” which is the term you used
2. Agreed
2a – but come on … what are the odds that an insurance professional posting on an insurance forum who owns a gun did not actually buy it? I’d wager of the gun owners who post on this site, less than 5% did not actually buy one of their guns.
3 – I still don’t know how you can tell if someone is a gun buyer solely from their posts. how do you do it??
2a. Do you know how many guns I own that were passed down from my father and grandfather? Multiply that by the millions, that’s how many guns were not “purchased” by the current owners. It happens every day, hundreds maybe thousands of times.
3. By their ignorance about the process. There really are laws already in place about the purchase of guns, and that includes online and at gun shows.

You mean the over laxed regulation at those places? Just as I showed in my link. Even though the website is selling the guns, it is providing a platform where the buyer and seller can circumvent the laws.
I actually have purchased a gun before, so it is not that we don’t understand rather we disagree on what process you should go through to buy a gun, and I have an issue with overly laxed regulations equally as much as over regulation.

Flawed- Is it the newspaper’s job to make sure the car you bought is registered and insured?
I call BS.
so I researched this a little more and yes armslist.com does sell firearms without a background check. Here is an overall report on the website. https://everytownresearch.org/documents/2019/02/singles-unchecked-bifold-020119d.pdf/

Jax – What is wrong with everytownresearch?

If we makes guns illegal….it will stop people from getting shot.
That’s how we stopped everyone from doing drugs…
When guns are criminal, only criminal will have guns…when they buy them from people who think guns should not be criminal because then only criminal will have guns…..
I was being sarcastic. People still do drugs.
I don’t believe making things illegal will stop a behavior or good from being bought/sold. There will always be a black market.

Have you ever noticed how the gun ignorance of the non-gun buyer shows thru in these comments?
You can tell who owns a gun just by how they post? Just because people are in favor of more robust gun controls does not mean they don’t own a firearm themselves.
Rosen- 2 things
1. I said you can tell the “non-gun buyer”.
2. Just because you own a gun does not mean you bought it.
