SunAmerica Inc. has named Jay S. Wintrob chief executive officer effective January 1, 2001. He succeeds Eli Broad, who will remain chairman of the company. Wintrob, 43, was named president of SunAmerica in July and will continue in that role. He is also a member of AIG’s board of directors and finance committee.
As a member of SunAmerica’s senior management team, he helped propel the company’s growth during the 1990s when it established itself as an industry leader in the retirement savings market, and was instrumental in guiding SunAmerica through its acquisition by AIG in late 1998.
Since the AIG acquisition, SunAmerica has continued its track record of growth, with a strong increase in operating income in 1999 and through the first half of 2000. The company provides nearly two million American families with a broad range of high-quality products and services, and its businesses hold an aggregate $139 billion in assets on which it earns fee or spread income.
