December 1, 2000

Crum&Forster has unveiled a new series of coverages called EComProtector, designed to protect businesses against the emerging risks brought about by the explosive growth of the Internet and the technology supporting electronic commerce. EComProtector contains a distinctive combination of relevant property, inland marine and crime coverages combined with new, Internet-related coverages such as protection for breach of computer security, computer viruses and denial of service attacks.

EComProtector provides coverage for computer systems including telephone systems, information recovery, loss of money and securities, employee dishonesty, and breach of computer security. It also covers loss of business earnings and extra expenses, contingent off premises interruption of Internet or Application Service Providers, loss of business opportunity through a denial of service disruption, and crisis management and disaster recovery expenses.

In recognition of the mobility of the new “connected” employee, the product also covers computers permanently off premises in the custody of employees. Most traditional policies limit coverage solely to property temporarily off premises.
