Nonprofit standards developer ACORD just got a big boost with the addition of international insurance giant American International Group Inc. AIG is the largest underwriter of commercial and industrial insurance in the U.S.
“By joining ACORD, AIG and its affiliates will further improve its customer services by reducing file format errors while improving internal automated processes,” stated Mark Popolano, AIG chief information officer. ACORD’s membership base increased by 20 percent in 2000, an increase that ACORD attributes to “the industry’s recognition of the need for standards to support anytime, anywhere data sharing.”
ACORD President and CEO Gregory Maciag stated: “We welcome AIG to membership and appreciate their contribution to the standards working group for the middle to large commercial lines market. In this time when the industry’s customers are demanding more effective service and data integrity, standards must be an integral part of the Internet strategy.”
Tens of thousands of insurance agencies and brokers, insurance companies, related financial services organizations, software providers and industry organizations worldwide are affiliated with ACORD.
