Markel Co. Expands Private School Coverage

Markel Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Markel Corporation, announced the expansion of its coverage of private schools. Long in the business of providing insurance for Montessori and K-8 private schools, Markel has extended its program to include these schools:

Art (fine arts, drama, music)

Charter

“Six million children attend private schools, and 23 percent of U.S. schools are private. This is an expanding market, and a logical extension of our existing private school coverage,” said Christi Hatcher, associate vice president.

Markel offers the following coverages:

Liability: General, umbrella, teachers’ professional, sexual abuse and molestation, corporal punishment, employee benefits, accident medical, special events, and volunteers as additional insureds.

Property: Buildings, business personal property, and systems breakdown.

Other: Crime, marine, commercial automobile.

Markel Insurance Company underwrites commercial specialty lines, including private schools; children’s camps; child care centers; social service agencies; youth recreation centers; and dance, gymnastics, and martial arts schools.
