Michael Browne, non-executive chairman of the board of the Harleysville Insurance organization, was appointed to the National Association of Independent Insurers’ (NAII) Board of Governors at its recent Annual Meeting in Atlanta.
NAII board members serve a three-year term, however a pending merger with the Alliance of American Insurers may reportedly redefine that time frame.
Browne was elected non-executive chairman of the board of Harleysville in October 2003. He has served as a director of Harleysville Group Inc. since it went public in 1986. Harleysville Insurance is a network of 12 property/casualty companies operating in 32 states.
Browne oversees the international insurance practice group for the law firm of Reed Smith, LLP, in Philadelphia. He joined Reed Smith as a partner in 1983, and served as managing partner of its Delaware Valley regional office from 1993 to 2000. He was appointed to his current position in 2001. He also served as the insurance commissioner of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1980 to 1983.
