Frist Takes Different Tack on Med-Mal

February 16, 2004

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will make a medical malpractice reform bill narrowly targeted toward limiting the liability of obstetricians and gynecologists the first order of business when the legislative body returns to session Feb. 23, according to the Associated Press.

The bill might also be applied to surgeons working in trauma centers, and would likely take the form of limiting the noneconomic damages – aka pain and suffering — awarded for a single occurrence to $250,000.

Insurance Journal Southwest Managing Editor Dave Thomas conducted an exclusive interview with Sen. Frist in the Feb. 9 issue.
