InVest Names Four New Board Members

February 23, 2004

InVEST, an educational program that aims to strengthen the insurance industry by attracting a large pool of qualified insurance recruits, recently added four members to its board of directors.

“We’ve been fortunate in the sense that our board members always have been a determined and enthusiastic team,” said InVEST Chairman Jim Armitage. “Our new board members only add to that attitude. They’ll help InVEST expand in the next several years by reaching even loftier goals in our strategic plan.”

The new board members include:
Pam Comedy, training director of sales & distribution for Safeco Insurance, Severn, Md.; Thomas C. Lowe, vice president of Tidewater Insurance Association Inc., Baltimore, Md.; Charlie McShane, vice president of distribution management for The St. Paul Companies, Baltimore, Md.; and Patrick Moore of Antalek & Moore Insurance Agency LLC, Beacon, NY.

Barbara Miller-Richards, InVEST Executive Director, said the new board members will assist the current board in many areas. These include developing a trained workforce and bringing new talent to carriers, agents and brokers; providing access to and the ability to reach a diverse, new group of employees, such as urban and minority students; presenting insurance professionals with an opportunity to get involved on a local level as classroom liaisons; enabling positive public relations by involving industry professionals in the classroom and community; positioning the industry as a respected liaison between the academic and business worlds; and producing knowledgeable insurance consumers.

Founded in 1970 and based in Alexandria, Virginia, InVEST is the only education program that develops a large pool of qualified insurance recruits. The program annually prepares more than 6,000 students for insurance-related jobs with a hands-on curriculum taught in high schools and community colleges.
