The magnitude of devastation depends on your location. For those located here who are without homes, power, jobs, and in some cases, loved ones, cannot be equated to anything less than complete devastation. The choice of title for this article could have been written a bit better.
I don’t think the intent of the article is to diminish the personal devastation of any individual, but is intended to be a testament that the stricter building codes are reflecting a marked difference in severity of damage from those homes constructed prior to the change in building code.
The emotional costs make no difference between Andrew and Charley. Simply a difference in property devastation. It is in no way a reflection of an indeferance to emotional and spiritual trauma impacted by all affected by either storm.
Intriguing, too is the name of the storm. Char-ley. Primarily affected Charlotte and Lee counties. Kinda spooky!
