RLI Opens Commercial Auto Unit

December 22, 2004

RLI Transportation, a division of RLI Insurance Company, has launched a commercial auto insurance unit.

According to RLI Transportation President David Dunn, the new unit will write mono-line commercial auto business with its existing retail independent agents while appointing a limited number of new retail agents in targeted states.

The commercial auto unit will target “stand-alone” auto business in specific classes of business, including contractors, public entities, communication related firms, utilities, financial institutions, wholesalers, manufacturers, healthcare, service organizations and other businesses. To qualify, an account must generate at least $75,000 in premium, have strong financials, have a comprehensive fleet safety program and exceptional loss experience. Also, the agent must be appointed by RLI Transportation.

“RLI Transportation already has a strong presence in the trucking and public transportation segments,” said Dunn. “The new unit will enhance these existing sectors and present new opportunities in a large segment of the commercial auto market.”

Eric Galisdorfer, assistant vice president, has been named to lead the new division. He has more than 22 years of experience in commercial insurance.
