    And not everyone rides a Harley, for instance I ride a Honda Aero 1100CC big cruiser. Most folks ride other than Harley’s. Honda is #1 in Market share, so let’s not sterotype.

    Really, there is no need to berate any two wheeled conveyance. I’ve ridden most all of them over the years and loved them all. It’s natural to take pride in your ride and it is a matter of personal taste.

    I don’t think the article was stereo-typing at all. I ride a Harley and I found it quite amusing. Mainly because it is so true. As far as Doug’s comment- again, I ride a Harley, but Honda’s are by far more dependable. I wouldn’t trade my bike for a Honda, but I would never put another bike down.

    By now it should be obvious that anytime a group is described by sterotypical or general comments, it doesn’t carry much weight. All Harley riders don’t share anything on a Universal basis except the vehicle they operate. Undoubtably some Harley riders share many attributes, and many don’t.

    Couple of more observations…..with 38 years of mc riding behind it….

    Except for race bikes…what brand do you see in the back of a pickup most often????? Harley’s

    License frame observed on an Aprilia Futura……if you see this bike on a trailer it’s being stolen.

    The reason Harley riders want to find and eat at “sit down” eating places is they need more time off the bike after getting beaten up by the bike.

    I take exception with the comment that Harley riders “acknowledge” other riders……by and large, even though we are ALL on bikes, Harley riders IGNORE other riders…..that is of course until we pass them….then they get excited….

    Now Cal, you are jumping to conclusions. My “old” bike is a 95 Harley and has 95,000 miles that I put on it and I have never been broken down and hauled in a truck. And as far as having to stop to eat, because I am being beaten up by my bike, that is a figment of someone’s imagination also. I can go 250+ miles on a tank of gas, and quite honestly I don’t have to stop between to rest. And I personally acknowledge everyone on two wheels. Everyone I ride with is this way. I’m thinking you aren’t as open minded as most Harley riders. I think everyone on two wheels is a breed above the rest, regardless of bike of choice.

    Nancy,

    Don’t get me wrong…I personally think ANYONE who rides ANY KIND of bike is someone I could probably relate to……and I do wave at EVERY bike that comes toward me…….of course I’m used to not getting any acknowledgement from 90% of the H riders……..but over the years the arrogance of the “typical” Hardley rider leaves me a bit put off.

    The funny part is the riders of any other brand of bike don’t seem to have that arrogance……Brit bike riders can socialize with Italian riders who can socialize with Jap riders who can even solicalize with the Autobahn crusiers……go to the Rock Store….the Hardley riders are off on there own while the rest of the “riders” are mixing together.

    I agree with Rich and Nancy, they are all good bikes. I have ridden a Harley and have no problem with them. I prefer a Honda. However, to correct Doug’s misconception, Honda motorcycles are made in Marysville, OH. My 1998 Aero specifically says “Made in America” on the bike.

    Wow, you think thats something? When me and some friends were younger, we saw this chump on a harly weeving through traffic while we were stopped in a long line of vehicles. I told my friend to swing open the door as a joke. To my amaizment, he actually did it, the guy on the MC was going like 30 and he knocked my door off!! Once again the poor ******* lived, but he was mangaled. I yelled at him for busting my door. As it turned out, even though we were drunk at the time and just playing around – HIS insurance paid to have my car fixed because all we did was open the car door while he was illegally weaving through traffic. We got a good laugh out of that, you should have seen the look on the guys face when he saw that door fly open, he knew at that point that he should have just obeyed the rules of the road because……..CAGERS ALWAYS WIN!!!

I was so skerd, he went flying like a rag doll – Fortunately for him, he lived – Hopefully he learned his lesson about joy riding when everyone else is in a hurry. Some of you guys are just a joke.

    “Comment” is the type of driver we learn to deal with as motorcycle riders. The guy on the motorcycle was probably going the speed limit when he was hit. If anything “comment” should be able to see that he, himself, was totally at fault (and hopefully his insurance company will cancel him for his bad driving habits). His foolishness is an example of why insurance rates are high. The only lesson the motorcycle rider learned is there are very ignorant drivers, of vehicles, who seem to think they own the road. That is a sad story, and “comment” seems so proud.

    You seem to generalize the people that do not ride a Harley. Not all of us get a bike outside of Harley for speed as you suggest. Some of us buy other Motorcycles because they are more reliable and less expensive for a better quality of bike. I get comments made to me all the time because I don’t ride a Hareley. But as I said to my son, I will ride behind you and when your motorcylce breaks down ( a Harley)you can be the ***** on the back of mine.

    ==============

    And what lingo have you so accurately
    discerned in this thread, Com?

    My asessment of you and your alleged
    “biker-baiting” remains.

    If you wish to defend your hostile
    actions:
    either real,
    or made up and spread here
    to get a rise out of people
    whom you disdain,
    then I would be delighted
    to point out to you
    the error of your ways.

    Of course,
    there is no teacher
    if there is no student:

    and I suspect you do not wish to be taught by the biker likes of such as me:

    therefore, then:

    go your way and let “cause-and-effect”
    be your teacher:
    that way is slower, and more painful:
    but it is not my concern.

    so whaddaya say?

    Cagers refers to things like you, who should be in cages, similar to baboons, monkeys, criminals etc

    Anyone who rides a motorcycle doesn’t generally need much explanation, they’ve had to contend with the likes of you before, and hopefully painlessly.

    While I “kmow” that you are just pulling our leg, it does sound as though there is some pent up frustration in you……been sitting in your cage to many times on the freeway and saw one of us lane split on you and be gone????????But you don’t have the intestinal fortitude to ride a motorcycle yourself……do you?

    so characterized herein..)

    I’m identifying those posts of which he/she/it
    is proud,
    as originating in personal
    cowardice, frustration, and hostility.

    These qualities
    are unlikely to manifest
    in anything other than a situation
    where he can have
    no risk whatsoever.

    Risk:
    the uncertainty of a future outcome.
    =============

    let’s see:

    “If I hit this Motorcycle from the rear,
    what’s the chance of me being hurt.”
    “Zero:
    I’ll take that risk..”

    BAM:
    the guy goes flying and Comment
    brags about it:

    ========================

    “If I open the door
    on the lane-splitting motorcyclist,
    what will happen to me..”
    “Nothing:
    I’ll take that risk..”

    BAM:
    the guy goes to the hospital.

    ===========
    Comment is either

    1. a liar
    or
    2. a coward
    or
    3. both.

    ==================

    I’ll take #3
    as the most likely possibility.

    ==================

    The good thing is,
    that although it may be frustrating
    to note that “Comment”
    is again “untouchable”
    in this venue:

    such behavior and attitudes
    pervade and influence
    a persons life “in toto”:

    and “Comment’s” life
    can be characterized
    as that of a weasel.

    Sure I pack a 9mm and a 380. You never know when someone might \”Bike Jack\” your bike. Otherwise most times I kick the mirrors or dent the fenders when idiots in cars do stupid things which affect my safety. Here in Texas where bikers are numerous in the DFW area, people have no respect for each other on the road much less a biker.

    No, I truly believe they did it. I\’ve over heard comments at my last job where people hate that cycles pass them in between the lanes and they wish they could wing open the door. To that I state, \”why would you want to play traffic queen and thus allow yourself to be sued, if proven, that it was not in fact an accident but rather a predetermined calculated task?\”

    One day these people will have friends or coworkers testify to the fact that they said it…in jest or not.

    Anyhow, California allows passing between cars and although I don\’t completely agree with it because people in cars don\’t understand the law, it is an allowed practice.
