I think we better go with the expert – Gray. I think whoever is funding this study should be looked at along with the results. If GLOBAL WARMING is causing stronger HURRICANES now, what caused the strong ones in the 1930\’s?????? What caused the global warming after the ice age. I believe it warmed quite abit to thaw things. I\’m sure human\’s have an effect on the environment, but I don\’t think we are the cause of stronger hurricanes and I don\’t think good science is there to prove otherwise.

global warning is a myth, the earth is flat, and the sun obviously revolves around the earth.

oh, yeah, and all those fossils were put there 6,000 years ago to test our faith.

As far as I\’m concerned, global warming is a huge hoax. Everyone should read \”State of Fear\”. It sort of puts all this into perspective. Check out the extensive bibliography in the back of it with absolutely verifiable information.

Reminds me of another hoax everyone has bought in our own industry. It\’s this little thing called \”IBNRs\”.

The Industrial Age with the tons of human created air pollution started in the late 1800s, hence the 1930 hurricanes. And the earth is naturally prone to swings (often volcano induced) for which it has developed coping mechanisms, hence the paleo-historic records. We can\’t control the natural causes of the swings, such as,volcanic erruptions, but we don\’t have to create new factors to exaggerate the phenomenon . If we do, Mother Earth won\’t care what the cause was, she\’ll do what she needs to do…..and we won\’t like it and won\’t be able to undo it!

I loved this comment \”mother earth\” … will do what \”she needs to do.\” On which side of this argument are the kooks anyway? The truth is, this earth has undergone massive climate changes without human intervention. Climatoligists predicted a bad hurricane season this year, but so far that is not true. On the other hand, scientists have uncovered evidence of gigantic storms in Florida hundreds of years ago. The science of climate change is a very new science, and the main thing it produced up to now (the coming iceage) was wrong. I think it is likely to be true that dumping all of this carbon into our atmosphere is not a good thing and as a society we need to switch to a better system. However, the kooks obsessed with the environment seem dead-set on looking at any event that occured and trying to shoe-horn it into proof of their point of view. The truth is, Florida is overbuilt on the coast and will have major catastrophes, regardless of climate change. As an actuary my job is to think about predicted losses, not try to attribute cause. Obviously, if global warming is causing this, then predicted losses will go up, as global warming (to the extent it exists) has just begun; and,I need to price for this correctly. But, I find it ridiculous to have to debate people who appear to either 1) have a pagan world view that includes such things as mother earth having a conscious, or 2) having someone accuse me of being narrow minded because I am intelligent enough to temper the hype of these stories with the track record of the story-tellers. This issue needs to be addressed rationally, and it often does not appear that the main proponents of global warming are simply being rational observers but rather they appear to have an agenda. Global warming is probably real, but if it is, it appears to be way over-hyped.

I\’ll go one step further, Carrie says \”and we won\’t like it and won\’t be able to undo it!\” My emphasis on the last part. If we are powerless to stop it, what makes you think that we had the power to start it in the first place?

I remember my days in school when the teachers taught us about the last ice age nearly 100,000 years ago and that evidence exists that proves that most of North America was covered by an advancing/retreating glacier. My question to you GLOBAL WARMING ALARMISTS is, \”How many SUVs on the roads at that time, did it take to melt back the glaciers during the last ice age or was there another factor involved that still may be playing a roll in all of this?\”
