Seems like a nerve was hit for many of you! Could you be guilty of these! Mary B,”total nutter”, how crude!

It seems that the Catholic Church has constricted its vision considerably. Under John Paul II, it addressed broad issues such as social justice, nuclear proliferation, genocide, opposed the wars in Iraq, etc. Now, we’re getting new versions of the 10 Commandments about driving a car that read like a feature article in USA Today. When I heard this on the radio last night, I assumed that the commentator was doing a satire…and a pretty funny one. Turns out it was true.

Is it really constricting its view? Or is it simply addressing something that is done on an everyday basis. It is easy to say big things like genocide and nuclear proliferation are wrong, but what about the little things that are done all the time and never considered? I think it’s good that the Vatican took a step back and commented on something we can all relate to.

Just think, the GEICO gecko would have been laughed at if he had published this.

The original commenter really missed the point. This is an enormous issue. I think people do not realize how many casualties and damage done to our earth is caused by the automobile. I think the vatican’s request is appropriate and I wish it had gone further and mentioned for all to take opportunities to use alternative transportation.

This coming from someone who can create their own schedule, is chauffeur driven, and given a police escort when they travel. Lets ‘see’ how long it would take His Holiness to break the second commandment if he had to drive in typical Roman traffic without use of the Popemobile:-)

I agree with hang up and drive or use handsfree. I would add extinguish the cigerette and drive as the 12th. I believe smoking related accidents are on the rise if I heard that correctly. Did someone flip the bird to His Eminence while on the road??? What was the Vaticans motivation for this.

What’s next from the Vatican? Do’s and Don’t’s at a Formal Dinner? 12 great Wedding tips? I’m glad the Vatican has decided to branch out from its usual bit condemning things that many people routinely do. But how many Vatican followers will drive sensibly b/c they are afraid of going to hell if they don’t use turn signals?

Of course I didn’t see the original Vatican edict. Maybe the author included a disclaimer: “Hey I got cut off in traffic the other day and when I braked the driver behind me flicked me off and swore at me and let me tell that you that it was not cool. Not cool at all. So I created a 10 commandments of driving. You better follow it because I work at the Vatican.”

Why would anyone (with a functional brain) care what this clown (in a clown outfit no less) has to say, think or feel about auto usage? This clown is a total nutter.

I’m doubled over laughing. First it was because of the ABSURD subject of the article. I can’t believe it’s not a hoax.

    But your comments…!!! OMG!!! LOL!!!

Good ones, y’all! Very good! Thanks for the giggles. =)

Jacob, I was going to chastize you for demoting His Holiness to a Cardinal, but I’m sure your error meant no disrespect. On the other hand Mary B. you have no place in a serious conversation. I would appreciate if you would continue to identify yourself as Mary B. so I could save some time not opening your posts.

The pope reminds me of the Emperor who has no clothes (and our Congress for that matter) focusing on minutia (hey, we all know the rules of the road) so we don’t look at the big white elephant in the middle of the room. Clean up the sexual behavior of your priests, will you? I worry more about kids in school with these predators than I do other drivers on the road.

No I follow all those items mentioned but not b/c it is urged by the Vatican. I do it b/c its the right thing to do.

Its just a little strange that the Vatican has branched out into this area, don’t you agree?

Oh papist you don’t like me because I am not stupid enough to believe in fairy tales and myths like religion, the bible and god? Too f’n bad. Trust me, you would be lost in the intellilectual conversations that my friends and I have. In fact, I would have a better conversation with a head of cabbage than with you.

That’s just rude Mary. If I don’t share your views I am ignorant. I don’t attend church either, but I will not disrespect people who do, unless they genuinely deserve disrepect. You are an aggrogant individual and deserve disrespect yourself. None of us really know the truth and to set yourself up as so intellectually superior is as arrogant as as any relgious nut. We do have freedom of religion in this country.

Your earlier post is arrogant. If you would read it all you say is how stupid religeous people are. Why do you need to say this in any forum? You have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. I can’t understand why the vatican seems to think they need to say these things either, but why do you feel the need to denigrate other’s views? You don’t argue in your post, you look down on others. Some animals are equal, some are more equal than others. You are the perfect Orwellian subject.

Nice commentary from the enlightened and open-minded…I guess “tolerance” is only for the pet classes of the liberals-not everyone.

ALL ARE EQUAL, BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS.
