Dennis Marvin, vice president of Ocean Marine for Max Specialty, was elected chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) at its annual meeting.
Marvin succeeds Richard J. Decker, president of AIG Global Marine, who completed his two-year term as chairman.
Marvin becomes the 49th chairman since AIMU was established in 1898. AIMU provides educational programs to its members, serves as an advocate before international, federal and state governments and acts as an information center for the U.S. ocean marine insurance industry.
Marvin has been in the marine insurance industry since 1976 when he was a management trainee at the Marine Office of America Corp. (MOAC). He moved to Wm. H. McGee in 1981 where he held avariety of positions. Following the acquisition of McGee by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., Marvin became vice president for ocean marine underwriting at Fireman’s Fund Specialty in 1999.
Marvin is a member of the Maritime Law Association, the National Cargo Bureau and the American Bureau of Shipping. He has served as chairman of AIMU’s cargo committee and as the U.S. representative on the cargo committee of the International Union of Marine Insurers (IUMI).
