For some reason, I think that either Doug just got his job and has no renewals or works for a salary and not commission. it must be one of the wall street firms giving out bonuses with Tarp. He does not have a big book of renewals thats for sure.

Use some of that magnificent wealth to buy a capital letter and an apostrophe.

ive. I’ve got to go now and try and take away one of your accounts. And by the way, I don’t think any of us are for sale, at least not to you.

No kidding, most agency CSR’s in any decent sized city are paid more than $60k.

Compman, that was funny as hell. Ive been playin the game for a few years and have come across a few producers with 30M books, thats 300k a quarter in pay or more. Doug must be young and dumb or live in one small *** town. AS for me, now that I own an agency, I will be very happy for years to come. Miss please hold my calls for the next 5 hours I have to inspect 18 tiny holes.

If Farmers Agents think they have a lot of value in their contract and contract value,,, they should look closely at what the new CEO has up his sleeve. Bob’s always been enamored by the true independant agent and doesn’t like to pay the commissions his captives take. On top of that he is going to cut the contract to limit how many can sell outside business.

I can vouch for Doug, he’s going very well. I’ve been with him for almost a year and I’m working on getting my P&C license. He pays me in quarters, but its usually a large bag so I’m cool with it. Plus we get free lunches as a company benefit. Doug’s mom, brings us PBJ squares every day at noon along with some chocolate milk. I turn 16 next week so I’ll be able to drive soon as hit the road looking for prospects. Doug is going to take over the industry…Just wait.

    Yay Personal lines..

Just an informal poll, how many of you would write personal lines business for non commercial lines customers? Is it even worth the time spent?

I don’t think its worth the time for me. Being in high school, Ive only got from 3 to 8 to really work my contacts and take care of business. By writing commercial lines I can spend my time concentrating on the accounts where the real money is.

But business is business, if I can buy an agency that concentrates on personal lines, as long as it is profitable and is well run, Im more than happy to collect the checks. You can always pay someone to run it for you.

My mentors say that personal lines is still profitable if done right.

in your pants. None of them are anything special. This whole thing reminds me of the three big brokerage presidents sitting in the fancy restuarant. One says, “Well, we have $x,000,000 in revenues per employees. The next one says “well, we have x plus x,000,000 in revenues per employee.” And the next one says. “well we have x + i +x,000,000 in revenue per employee. One of the other presidents says: what is “i.” The other says, “oh, that’s math notation for an “imaginary number. I just thought I would get this discussion over in my favor.”

And they put the dinner on the company tab and go back and make life miserable for their employees based on claims and dreams of “i” and the kind of behavior seen in the comments so far on this article.

I think the survey is going to capture “i” very well.

And who says women don’t understand math better than men.

I spent some 20+ years working in the insurance industry, both on the carrier and agency/brokerage side.

Every agent/agency claims to deliver “service”. But the reality is, few actually do.

I now work in the risk management department of a major healthcare provider. Between my boss and myself, we have almost 50 years combined insurance industry experience. That means, between the two of us, we’re doing 95% plus of the work that our broker SHOULD be doing, but because of their lack of experience and resources, doesn’t.

Are we getting our money’s worth? No way. Why don’t we switch to one of the “big” houses? Because they can’t do any better. They’d only charge more.

So…here’s my question to all of you touting how much you’re “worth”. What REAL value do you bring to your client? Do you research what types of programs similar clients have, and check to make sure that your client has the best possible program? Do you offer any additional services (loss control/risk management/claims review/expertise in a certain area)?

Or are you simply a “renew as is” broker who really brings very little to the table?

    Hi Doug,

I’m a woman in the insurance business and make almost twice what you do. In this day and age, my salary + bonuses are not unusual. You must be confusing present with the past. This business is no longer a “good old boys” network with insurance “secretaries” at the boss’ beck and call. We don’t make the coffee, either.. unless we feel like it.Get real.

Are you a babe? I must be the only independent agent in my state that uses a dawg as my CSR.

Could this be why I’m not making as money as Doug? She’s not like Doug’s mother either! She wouldn’t know how to make a PBJ if her life depended on it!

Doug: Since you have verbally offered Lucy a J O B, can I interest you in EPL coverage?

Lucy: Before you accept Doug’s offer for employment, don’t just negotiate the typical things like salary, vacation, sick leave and a liberal-comprehensive health coverage but demand one of the killer PB&J lunches everyday…

Was this really the best offering you so called “producers” could bring to the forum?

I get the image of a slick jerk sitting at his desk trying to come up with a witty retort, all the while scratching his balls and picking his nose thinking no one is watching.

Belt and shoes to match? Used cars are coming back, baby!
