That’s what they are doing right now in commercial. They will continue to lose money in the face of trying to maintain market share.

When you undercut everyone in the market, play both sides against the middle, leaving significant money on the table, it eventually catches up with you! Relationships! Everbody loves you when you are cheap! I am shocked that the loss ratio has not breached the 100 mark! Time will tell!

Where are the watchdogs on new business???

This is sincere. I routinely see them on tough GL that is 1/2 or 1/3 of the competition. I’ve seen them write products for pennies. I’ve also seen them write unsupported Workers’ Compensation very aggressively, and they don’t seem to bat an eye. And all reports show that Hartford P&C makes money galore? They must have something figured out that the rest of us are just too pompous to see.

they wrote on standard paper a bullet proof vest mfg who sells to municipalities. My retailer had a Hartford contract but did not think they would look at this product account…..the result is that this retailer will start shotgunning all accounts for fear they will misss something….Carrier hate shotgunners….but what would you do?

Oh yes they are. Backed by the government and Barack’s spending spree, and now they’ll write anything !
