i don’t think you are going to be able to succeed with this for legal issues… sounds like you want to collect on bad debt that has passed. it’s like making the statue of limitations no effect, for any reason…. i know it affects everyone, but if the next incident costs more, then are we going to rewrite the rule again to cover it retro? this is unfair to any business.
i am waiting to see mother nature? when are you going to plan to sue her because she’s made a mess with earthquakes, volcanoes and possibly big hurricanes… are we going retro active these catastrophes?
yes, we don’t want the americans to be on the hook. problem is this incident was in international waters and not within our boundaries, unlike the exxon accident.
Chuck
My NJ neighbor, you are always spot on.
Let’s just hope that BP acts like a good neighbor and takes care of its mess and we can enjoy the sandy beaches.
If it is going to take another 3 months just to stop the oil from leaking, which means that the Gulf will still be a mess of oil for at least 3 more months, can you imagine what would happen if a hurricane forms in the Gulf over the slick and then makes landfall?
I think that everyone agrees that even having a limit for this type of risk doesn’t make sense. BP and its subcontractors should all pay whatever the full damages add up to. However, I can’t imagine what Obama is thinking when he wants a law retroactive. That idea is a dangerous.
Obama and the White House have put a moritorium on Hurricanes over the Gulf. So everyone down there should be able to sleep good at night. I’m so glad we have our government!
Obama wants to make sure that everyone get is happy. The idea of making the law retroactive is ridiculous. BP has agreed to pai all reasoanble claims, so let’s see before we pass any judgement.
Hmmm. Wait and see what these guys will do. My bet is they do exactly what they want to do. Thats what this administration has done with everything else. Glad i didnt vote for any of them and wont.
I think they will. What i think they wiont do is pay someone for losses that they were having anyway because of a bad economy for the past year or so. If it is a legitimate claim my bet is they make good no matter what law is on the books.

I agree totally. If we change the laws after something happens and then make them effective retroactively, why have them in the first place??
