W. R. Berkley Corp. has appointed Douglas J. Powers as president and chief executive officer of Carolina Casualty Insurance Co., succeeding William E. Haines. The appointment is effective immediately.
Powers has 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has been with W. R. Berkley Corp. since 1992, having co-founded Monitor Liability Managers, LLC, a W. R. Berkley member company, and serving as its president and chief executive officer until 2009.
Carolina Casualty, based in Jacksonville, Florida, specializes in writing liability, physical damage and motor truck cargo insurance for the trucking industry, including local, intermediate, and long-haul truckers, as well as private carriers. It also writes liability and physical damage coverage for various classes of business and public auto insurance.
