MJ Insurance Launches Golf Program

By | January 31, 2012

MJ Insurance has created a product for the golf industry that includes both insurance coverage and risk management.

The company’s “Golf Program” offers a variety of coverages, which is important for the range of risks that golf courses face. These organizations can need coverage for everything from pollution/environmental to trees to daycare.

“The main products are the GL and workers’ compensation,” said Byron Shultz a producer at MJ Insurance and PGA member. “And in today’s financial market, directors and officers coverage is another huge area of concern for the country clubs.”

MJ’s program will target many industry-related businesses including golf course management companies, course architects, country clubs, food and beverage suppliers, manufacturers and special event companies.

The product made its industry debut at the PGA 2012 Merchandise Show in late January. It will be introduced in Arizona, where the company has an office in Phoenix. However, the product is designed to be written wherever MJ Insurance does business.

According to the Arizona Golf Industry Association, the industry contributes more than $3.4 billion to Arizona’s economy each year. In addition to golf courses, country clubs and other golfing destinations, the industry includes manufacturers, apparel distributors and a host of special events.

MJ Insurance hired Shultz last year to help start the golf program. Before he joined the company, he was a professional golfer and has worked as a club instructor, tournament director and merchandise sales and event coordinator in Massachusetts, New York and Arizona.

“The golf industry has a significant need for strategic risk management,” said Michael H. Bill, CEO of MJ Insurance. “We’re pleased to roll out MJ’s Golf Program and confident in the abilities of our team members to serve existing and future clients well.”

Shultz’s knowledge of the golf industry will help clients with some of the risk management issues involved. He can also help pair up golf courses and companies with the carriers that will best meet their individual needs.

“Each golf course is a little bit different and has special needs,” Shultz said.

Independent broker MJ Insurance is headquartered in Indianapolis and has clients in 16 countries and in every U.S. state.
