it’s the property insurance catch 22. you don’t want a hurricane because you want to get paid. you need a hurricane every now and then in order to get paid. Rest of it is window dressing. One of my favorite things to do is compare the reinsurance article comments to the hurricane model article comments. You’ll see the same people talking out of opposite sides of their mouths.
Are you one of the Al Gore true believers who think this storm is man’s fault? I saw an interview on Fox this week with a real Meteorologist and one of these Climate Change freaks. The Meteorologist had done his homework and pointed out the cyclical nature of weather and we had much worse problems in the 50’s and 60’s with numerous storms because the Atlantic was warmer back then. It then cooled off and we didn’t have storms again for a long time. We now have another cycle going on which has nothing to do with man and the Climate Change people are trying to pump up their theories. This lady was saying the ocean was rising and had no facts to back it up. I think I will go with the Meteorolgist and his research. The Progressives elected Obama because they thought he could hold back the waters and prevent this from happening. Oops! All he ended up being is an empty suit politician full of broken promises.
It is an insurance company’s job to set aside any political, irrelevant snide comments about Al Gore, and take a look at what the science actually says, without the sorts of pseudoscientific ad hominems and logical fallacies that seem to dominate discussions on climate.
Hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake. I get to talk to the people companies actually hire to figure out their exposure to these events on a regular basis, and not one of them has said anything about “Al Gore”. They have taken their loss data and concluded that extreme weather events actually are getting a bit more severe and a bit more frequent.
In the end we are left with actuaries, and their data, scientists who study this full time, with their data, both generall agreeing with each other, and conspiracy theorists who push what amounts to junk science on everybody and claim there is a huge conspiracy to defraud the public.
Sorry, I just don’t buy conspiracy theories. I will stick to the data.
James, the so called scientists who tried to ram their theories down our throat have been caught in their deceptions and many of them had to resign and go away. Most of them were Progressive Socialists who were seeking to profit from Cap & Trade and make millions.
Great, predicating computer-generated statical studies on the ASS-umption the junk science of the global warming cult, itself based on flawed, manipulated algorithms and cherry-picked data, has some validity beyond the enrichment of those who profit from this hysteria?
Well, it gives the insurance industry another opportunity to hose consumers, so I should not be surprised. This industry is as sleazy as used car sales, politics & law. White-slavers have more integrity.
Sar, if you were in this industry and working for me, you would be cleaning out your desk right about now with views like this. Claims happen to real people and companies do have to pay when there are storms, wildfires etc. We can agree that the global warming freaks are frauds without trashing the insurance industry who has to respond to events. Do you think the consumers in Illinois and Indiana were hosed last week. Insurance companies send disaster teams out to help people and pay Loss of Use until they can get rebuilt. Your comment is very inappropriate.
I wonder if Al Gore funded this study. I am sure it is all man’s fault that we have had storms which has been going on for millions of years.
Now Gore is saying storms are all man’s fault? I have to admit I don’t keep up with him.
Perhaps we need to come up with a different naming convention for these events.
Calling it a 3-20 year storm just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
When are climate change scientists going to realize that their predictions almost never come true?
It’s okay, just admit it. It doesn’t mean that climate change isn’t happening – it just means New York City won’t be underwater in 5 years.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe the comments on this site are coming from insurance people.

Hoping you are challenging your assumptions this week.

I’ll bet JamesTR is the kind of guy who loves to listen to himself talk. Can you imagine having to sit anywhere near that gasbag at work?
I’d have to gather data from other people who have sat next to him at work and compare it.
