Reality Bites… are you saying this as if it’s a bad thing Hartford took this approach? I mean really… if a company knows they will have a large concentration of losses in a defined area, then why wouldn’t they decide not to increase their exposure to the loss?? You’re obviously not a good businessperson, any sane and smart person could see that they instilled a plan that will work
You also have to keep in mind they sold Hartford Life, and have been going through a complete reduction in force for their Direct and AARP programs. They are going into cost saving crazy, and letting their underwriting slip. I give odds of 4/5 they are going to be needing another bail out from their current leadership choices.

Hartford Insurance and the AARP have an affiliation that is important for all AARP members to know of and know that the AARP does not have any ethical obligation to its members for Hartford Insurance actions.
Long Island, New York ……….. My 89 year old mother called Hartford and informed and agent that the roof was leaking and sheet rock was falling in the garage and the front gutter was blown off. She was told to put on a tarp !! I did say she was 89 and there was no power, traffic lights were out and stores were closed. A contractor from a church that my brother goes to stopped by and determined the wind had removed to many shingles and she was in need of a new roof. My 89 year old mother said Please do what needs to be done. He said the earliest he could do the repair was the following Monday. He showed up with his crew and the job was completed. It cost $7000.. Hartford wanted pictures sorry but no pictures just wet areas in the house. Hartford now refuses to pay for the roof ……… another example of the compassion and understanding in the worst of time. Hartford is a company that AARP recommends for its seniors (easy prey for Hungry Hunters). Not only won’t they pay the agent was rude when telling my mother “that we’re giving you $2000. for the indoor repair if it needs paint you do it, your not covered”
This sham of a company is all about taking advantage of its seniors and customers. Upset in Farmingdale, Long Island …………. Jim Nicholson (son)
I would recommend filing a complaint with the NY Dept of Ins.. Don,t settle for less than entitled to.. There is a lot of incompetency among claim adjusters and companies are overwhelmed with claims at the moment. If you do this you will find a very different tone from the company.
Of course Sandy is manageable for Hartford. They’ve spent years thinning the book of anything within 25 miles of navigable water.
Goes to show that wasn’t a bad plan of action then…
:P
