cowards. The farm subsidies are welfare for the farming community and industry as much as food programs are welfare for people who can’t afford food. Both are subject to fraud, and neither is popular. But Republicans will not risk the wrath of their farm state supporters, and so they’ll approve farm welfare while slashing people welfare. Fortunately, the Senate will not go for this, nor will the White House.
I could not agree with you more. Once upon a time in our country the government bought excess food from farmers and made it directly available to those in need, ie govt cheese distribution program. Back then it made sense to have the department of agriculture administer, but now that the program is nothing but welfare with no actual distribution of food we should have this handled outside of the department of agriculture. Health and Human services would be far more fitting.
Say it with me Republicans – ‘NON-STARTER’! Quit pandering and get something done already.
And to Huh! – I think you mean Big Ag and nutrition are not synonymous. Factory farming is all about fattening farming. Want real nutrition? Find a small local farmer. The Monsantos of the world are killing the nutrition in our food chain.

It’s about time they split the two measures. Agriculture and nutrition are not synonymous.
