If the allegations are true, it would be a bit frightening

This is what happens when Metrics, Algorithms, Predictive Analysis is used. We see it all the time in insurance. There is no evaluation of an employee’s performance by a supervisor before you let them go?????

If this turns out to be true after intense investigation, the CEO needs to step down and they should pay CA state fines, or the people should drain them dry of advertising revenue by dropping any tie to their services. If it’s true, I for one will drop by Yahoo supported email account and delete Yahoo Sportacular from my apps.

jl, If I recall, the culture between agents and Allstate led to forming a guild to deal with management. Captives really don’t have much of a chance if the company decides to terminate an agent.

The damages are to Mr. Anderson’s self esteem, as he had most likely received participation trophies his entire life. He now learns a life lesson.

Sounds like Yahoo was trying to downsize without having to pay severance. Change your employee review metrics and keep them secret… If this is true, Yahoo must be punished severely to make other companies think twice before doing this.

Once upon a time, I worked for a large national carrier. All was good. I had a Exceeds Expectations on my annual performance review. I was happy.

Then 90 days later, I was put on a “Performance Plan” because the numbers were not there! Well was I shocked.

The penthouse to the outhouse in 90 days. I was given 60 days to make 200 agency visits, write $200,000 in new business, return all phone calls within 24 hours, turn all quotes in 24 hours and issue renewals 30 days in advance.

Needless to say, I did not make it but nor was I terminated. Why? Because I had been noticing how many folks in my age bracket were being terminated for poor performance. I did leave and I met many at my new company and we compare notes.

The only saving grace is that the VP that engineered the strategy was sent away to spend more time with his family.

Interesting post Jadefox. I think that VP that engineered the strategy was on a power trip and it caught up with him. I have seen VP’s of departments in companies make goof ups that cost them their jobs. One was hired from Progressive and tried to make the Independent Agency company a mini version of Progressive by selling direct. That lasted about a year before he wore out his welcome when thousands of agents complained. He was sent packing as he should have been. I wish you well with your new company.
