This guy just doesn’t get it. Now even more construction will be overbuilt to attempt to prevent the rare events that may happen and the fantasy science of global warming. Distorting risk and market forces to centrally plan and try to head off black swan events is foolish and wasteful. No wonder our country is such a mess financially and socially. These ideas are not new they are ancient and foolish. “For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.” H. L. Mencken

He’s trying to add something “positive” to his legacy. His foreign policy, the economy, etc. have all bombed out.

Hi Perplexed. I wonder how we have so many homes built 100-150 years ago that are still standing and being used. Back then, they built them right. If the plumbing, electrical, roofing and A/C have been updated, the structure is sound. They also don’t have mold problems like the more modern cheaper construction.

The additional building codes won’t do as much for loss prevention as it will to line the pockets of those in the construction industry. Obama hopes to coax them to vote for Dems, through this thinly veiled building code revenue-generating bribe, to carry on his agenda well past his departure from the White House.

The states know very well what is needed to mitigate building losses due to engineering studies, and they are already taking the necessary steps to change codes. Obama is acting as “Captain Obvious” here, trying to convince people (low information voters) that he is an insightful guy. Truth be told, he is only an incite-ful guy.

I don’t know about you Yogi, but I don’t want Obama to tell me anything on any subject anymore. We have had quite enough of that in the past 7+ years, all with disastrous effects.
