Transportation Insurer National Interstate Promotes Skuggen, Adds AIG’s Blankenship

National Interstate Insurance Co. announced the promotion of George Skuggen to senior vice president and the hiring of Steve Blankenship as vice president, Passenger Transportation.

In his new role, Skuggen will oversee National Interstate’s Truck and Environmental, National Accounts and Passenger Transportation products. Skuggen previously served as National Interstate’s vice president of Truck and Environmental. Prior to joining National Interstate, he held leadership positions at several insurance companies including Westfield Insurance, CNA, USF&G and Progressive Insurance.

Blankenship will oversee all passenger transportation insurance products while utilizing his underwriting background to uncover additional business opportunities. Blankenship has 17 years of industry experience, most recently serving in a management role for AIG in the National Mining division. He has also worked at Keystone Insurers Group, Westfield Insurance and Selective Insurance.

The previous vice president for Passenger Transportation, Matt Grimm, was promoted to president of Vanliner Insurance Co., National Interstate’s subsidiary serving the moving and storage industry.
