Well if I can just time things right to protect assets from another crash, I will certainly be the retiring kind at 63.5 years of age. Has been a great career but enough is enough as they say.
mrbob, the Obama economy of the last 8 years is responsible for the economic upheaval the country has been experiencing. People that were planning on retiring would decide they couldn’t afford to retire because of the oppressive Progressive tax rate and the uncertainty of the economy. Good thing we have a President now who understands and will doing something about taxes and restoring the economy to MAGA.
Start planning now young man and putting something aside. By the way, if you have the right retirement plan and you also get Social Security, you can make it just fine because people usually have a home paid off, have few bills other than taxes, kids are out of the basement and on their own except the failure to launch dudes.
I am not a young man. I’ve been planning for many decades.

Confused, if you are not a young man, why do you act like one and never know anything and expect everyone to do your research for you? Bob completely gave up trying to educate you.

You didn’t even care to do as little research as asking how old Confused was before you ASSUMED (we all know what that means) he was a young man. Nice troll try, Agent.

I think the switch from pension plans to 401k’s is more likely to have eroded more ability to retire than any political shift or swing.
Although I have never been in favor of having a neighborhood organizer turned state official then US senator in the white house, think one should have worked in the real world for a period of time, I do not blame the ex POTUS for my current retirement account levels. These issues have been the result of 2 significant downturns in the last 30 some odd years.
I’m 65. I could retire, but I’m just getting good at this working thing that I’ve been doing. They tell me that I would be valuable as a volunteer, but if I’m going to work I may as well get paid.
If you are in good financial standing, why not use your talents to volunteer? I have found the rewards of helping those less fortunate far outweigh money exponentially.
Please reconsider, for the benefit of your fellow man.
The word retirement is not in the scriptures. Why retire if you enjoy what you do? Money earned is another tool to bless the lives of others. Age does not determine or limit the contribution one can make to serve others.
A lot of people who go to the rocking chair die in a few years because they lose their purpose in life. People that stay active and involved last a lot longer. I used to know a man who worked in our business until he was 87 and enjoyed coming in every day. He had great customers and they did business with the agency because of him.

“More than a quarter of workers age 55 or older say they have less than $10,000 in savings and investments.”
Doesn’t matter which political party has control, you can’t retire for even ONE HALF OF ONE YEAR if you only have $10,000 in savings.

Just need to watch and wait.
Please list all the things the ex Potus did to encourage business for the ending 8 years. How did all those recovery summers work out for the country?

Wally, getting well paid is a whole lot better than not getting paid at all.
