Uh, did we read the same article? Where does the article talk about those Dem’s trying to REDUCE or DILUTE safety standards? I only read text stating the opposite:

“We are concerned that the bill indefinitely preempts state and local safety regulations even if federal safety standards are never developed,” (Rosenblatt comment: and that’s why they want to change the bill)

The Democrats’ letter said “exemptions from current safety standards should be temporary and reviewable” and added the bill should “not interfere with traffic laws and other traditional state or local responsibilities.” (Rosenblatt comment: this sentence indicates the current bill needs to be amended to ensure any extention from safety standards is temporary and reviewable)

The letter to the bill’s sponsors, Republican John Thune and Democrat Gary Peters, also raised concerns the bill did not address issues with cars that have partial automation (Rosenblatt comment: partial automation is the kinds of vehicles we’ll see for the next 10 years)

“We are concerned ….indefinitely pre-empts”. There was NO substantiation for that fear mongering by Socialist Dems. None. Nothing else needs to be said.

DNC, let’s hope that our champion of autonomous vehicles has to wait about 20 years for them to be in wide use. Trucks are the biggest worry since many of them weigh 80,000 GVW and that blown sensor can cause big time damage with tremendous loss of life and would be vulnerable to hacking.
