Remember when tech companies from Silicon Valley were all cool and hip and so-politically correct and liberal and tolerant and Don’t Be Evil and all that, just confidently leading us all into the future?

Man, that was so last week.

Turns out they are all in reality capable of vast creepy and scary behavior that makes totalitarian Big Brother more likely by the day.

If you followed liberal civil libertarians instead of Fox you would know most liberals weren’t saying this, but probably not based on your ignorance regarding Petraeus and hope denial of climate science.

“Remember when tech companies from Silicon Valley were all cool and hip and so-politically correct and liberal and tolerant and Don’t Be Evil and all that, just confidently leading us all into the future?”

By the way, to this day the tech crowd operates with this mentality. It is not a Fox News thing. The tech crowds are notorious for sensitivity training, talking about politically charged liberal hot topics to spread their version of good will, etc. Silicon Valley has been a bunch of liberal activists for some time, and I’m not saying that as an insult, it’s just a matter of fact.

There are those who are quite glad about it.

The this you are saying liberals aren’t saying, is that the this? Because if it is, you’re wrong.

Google and Amazon in particular are big time known for this, and I had a brother who nearly quit working at another tech company in which these things came up at every meeting, and when Trump won they had a meeting in which people said they don’t feel safe anymore with him winning and with anyone who might have voted for him in the company. They tried to push that narrative, a few employees at the meetings, in other words suggesting to get rid of Trump supporters. Now it was shut down, but the employees there again and again were pushing around the Trump voters and they had tons of sensitivity meetings, also to talk about how the company might be looking down on foreign workers (they had them) and avoiding even subconscious bias.

I have two facets in my family: Engineer – Tech and another which doesn’t have relevancy here. I am well aware of these biases. One brother fell into them. He’s a lot like you. And he’s isolated the whole family for his social justice crap. Anyone who debated he shut up, and called them the same labels you do. The smart alec thought everyone was racially insensitive, talked about black crime, thought that the only difference between terrorism and violence was the color brown of skin, etc. You and him would get along, and I’m sure you’ve separated many families with your hogwash.

On the other hand, I haven’t. I have two nieces who started following me over their dad. Why? Because this crap has gone too far, and leftists are out of line. I was surprised to see the 17 year old one just outright call her father a fool recently and said I had a lot of common sense. I didn’t call her father a fool, ever, or imply it. I simply talked about my beliefs, why, and what I thought might be relevant in her life. I’ve never insulted her or her sister for their dating, the older of the two is 19, and I’ve lifted her up. You don’t know what conservatives are. You call us judgmental and stuck in the past, baloney. We are realists more than anything, I am aware of the issues that come with her bad choices. And all her bad choices come from liberal idiots like you. I know that sounds equal to you, but it’s not. When I come in and I warn someone what something could be, it’s just reality. When you come in and say “just because” “doesn’t mean” and “don’t judge” people lose their ability to “judge” and weigh decisions. It went so far with one of my exes, she could call NOTHING wrong, and as such, she really believed her lifestyle with drugs eventually wasn’t wrong, and porn. No one said anything better existed. You don’t have to attack someone for being on drugs to try and nudge them the right way. I know that sounds off topic but the way you talk of us conservatives and when we act, is sickening. You have not one clue of the people I’ve helped, and I’m quite active in it. Stop calling us racist, stop calling us full of hate, stop saying we hate the poor, and stop calling us liars for not agreeing with you.

Have you read 1984? Might want to find a copy.

The Google/Facebook censoring of conservative voices may not bother you, or maybe you aren’t aware
of it yet. Dennis Praeger is going to the Surpreme Court over instructional videos – I kid you not. Not porn, that’s okay with Google. Not violence. Instructional Videos. And Praeger will probably lose. Also, you may have heard Google fired a conservative for asking whether diversity policies actually, you know, made sense. OH THE HORRORS OF IDEAS!

Facebook got caught deleting a picture of Jesus on the cross as “too violent”. They have been found to curate news away from conservative sources.

College campuses are well-known for suppressing free speech of conservatives, sometimes with violence. Just the beginning of something bigger or something that will fade out? We shall see, but not too many lefties speaking out against it so far, so maybe they all approve of eliminating free speech.

You might ask: why are liberals such pansies that they can’t listen to different ideas? But then you might have to wonder why this suppression of ideas doesn’t bother traditional liberals (meaning “freedom” lovers).

With the power of technology, just wait until some facsist decides to flip the tables and target lefties. Putin maybe? China? (Trump, I hear my lefty friends ask?) Just a matter of time now, and it could get much, much worse than just Dennis Praeger, if China is any indication.

As you say, “something to be outraged about”.

I have indeed read 1984, several times. I’ve also read “Animal Farm”, which is also very applicable to today, on BOTH sides.

When I said “I’d have something to be outraged about”, I meant it facetiously. I learned LONG ago not to get angry about something there was no way I could change. I don’t have the time to be angry all the time, especially at people I don’t know personally. I don’t lump people into “liberal vs conservative”; there are way too many shades of gray. I hold both liberal and conservative views on a lot of subjects.

You seem like an extremely intelligent man, and I understand you’ve been through personal hardship. However, nobody has ever changed someone’s mind by insulting them. Does calling a liberal a “pansy” make them more or less receptive to hearing your side? I do respect you for at least responding, but you’ll get your message across better by being respectful.

What do you call someone who is afraid of ideas that are different from their own? I will go with whatever you call them.

China tracks “reputation scores” for every citizen now. Those with a bad score can’t transact commercial business or even possibly travel. Now how fair do you think the appeals process is?

Who would you want to track your Reputation Score? Trump? Zuckerberg? Hillary? Lois Lerner? Dick Cheney?

Getting pretty serious isn’t it? And then liberals suppress free speech and you get offended by the name “pansy”. Check your priorities.

That’s close to the definition of conservatism, which is based in keeping things as they were in the past. This is due to inherent fear if you believe most of the studies, particularly the ones in J Dean’s book about the conservative mind.

You whine about censorship but liberals are censored here and it’s largely because of conservatives complaining, along with incompetent moderators. You, Bob, Agent, Yogi and other right-wingers spew hate speech with no repercussions. Your are just soooooo aggrieved that you can’t lie nonstop and push racism without it being called out, like you could in the old days.

On the topic of conservatives here getting free passes: Is this why two of my last posts were deleted which were not nearly as bad as yours?

You have basically got the whole site triggered so hardcore (and yes, it’s you) they are doing anything they can to get you to stop and are deleting conservative posts that even say “crap”. If you get offended by the word “crap” combined with “that’s a load of” you need to get your priorities straight.

I have a Facebook account I created only to view the Facebook presence of businesses we insure. I provided no personal information and don’t have any “friends.” So they don’t know my address, my birthday, my employer, schools, none of that – and I only use it for underwriting. The scary thing is in their “suggested friends” tool, I can see they have figured out my family, friends, co-workers, old neighbors, etc. It is almost impossible to be “off the grid.” Apparently they use the search history of my web browser and my IP address to determine other things.

I keep it light on Facebook, use it mainly to keep in touch with relatives and friends that live far away, share some tunes I like, inspirational messages that resonate with me, post pix of our new rescues or fosters. I have seen people get into nasty blood-curdlingly vicious fights on FB and when you see people airing their dirty laundry, it’s just not fun any more. I hide a lot of stuff that just is not “civil.” Lots of political hate messages, both sides, ugly ugly stuff – that gets hidden.

This is bigger than Facebook. All the Tech companies gather and sell your information. TripAdvisor, Google, Amazon, EBay, Apple . . . they ALL gather information and sell it. Hell, even small retailers like hotels and restaurants have you sign a waiver on the use of your information.

Unless you are living in a cave, your information is being gathered, a profile on you is being built, and your privacy is a long-gone joke.

Remember, this all started with the outrage – outrage – that Trump might have used the cyber information of millions to get elected. If you can’t imagine anything happening in the future that is worse than that . . .

In my opinion, the internet is simultaneously one of the best and worst things to happen to humanity. Personally, I miss the days before we had it. We were all more civil to each other, we had to work harder, we generally had to wait for the evening news or the newspaper to update us on the news, and I honestly believe we appreciated things more.

I’m with you there. The internet created amazing efficiencies in many areas.

But the research on the impact of Social Media is almost universally damning. It is not making people better or happier.

And the threat for abuse by government or corporate power is very real. That’s why it is very concerning to conservatives that there are so few people on the left defending free speech they disagree with. It is as if they can’t see the opposite scenario someday, where liberals are targeted and no one steps up on their behalf because they are not “on the same team”.

Wisdom of Betty White on SNL: “You know, I have so many people to thank for being here, but I really have to thank Facebook. When I first heard about the campaign to get me to host Saturday Night Live I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is I have to say it sounds like a huge waste of time. I would never say that people on it are losers, but that’s only because I’m polite. People say “But Betty, Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends.” Well at my age if I want to connect with old friends I need a Ouji board. Needless to say we didn’t have Facebook when I was growing up. We had Phonebook, but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon on it. Facebook just sounds like a drag. In my day seeing pictures of people’s vacations was considered a punishment. And when we were kids, we didn’t say we were single. We were kids! It was weird if we weren’t single! Yes, we had poking, but it wasn’t something you did on a computer. It was something you did on a hayride. Under a blanket. Oh, sorry.”
