“Defense Distributed would violate New Jersey law by allowing anyone to print guns regardless of age, criminal status or history of mental illness”
Regardless of your stance on gun control // second amendment, I think we can all agree it’s a bad idea to be able to let any person (even 11 year olds – they’re really adept with computers in this day and age) be able to print a fully functional gun. Yes?
In order to build a functional rifle the user would need to purchase the remainder of the parts of the rifle from various suppliers most of which will not ship product to states that do not allow them such as 30 round magazines to the state of California. Many of the parts of any firearm could be printed but the critical components of the weapon ie the barrel and Bolt Carrier group would need to be made from high grade steel or other metals due to the pressures involved with firing a rifle. I have yet to hear of a composite material that can be used in a 3D printer that would not have a catastrophic failure if used for the barrel or BCG.
For today at least Rosenblatt your example of an 11 year old is not quite the concern it could be.
That’s wonderful news, mrbob. I’m glad I’m wrong (and I’m not being sarcastic!!) Since it didn’t state otherwise, I inferred from the article that the entire gun could be made via additive printing/manufacturing. Thanks for the edification!
That horse is out of the barn. Good luck getting it back.
Blame the tech. geniuses in Silicon Valley. You know, the Google morons who won’t help the US military because they are “anti-war”. So in effect, they are helping the Chinese and the Russians.
Meanwhile, the products they manufactured spread 3D gun making technology around the world so that crazy idiots can make guns in their garage. People like criminals, terrorists, insane people. So much for gun registration laws. What cool guys up in Silicon Valley! “Don’t Be Evil!” Right ON!
Craig, read an article that people really wanting to build a real gun have been able to do it online for a long time and not risk it blowing up in their face. This is all a load of —- for the anti gun idiots.
I’ve been downloading 3d printable gun plans, printing them and testing them for the past 5 years. They are already all over the internet. This seems more like a publicity stunt for 1 site then any sort of real news
With a White House and Congress, owned by and substantially accountable to the NRA, why would anyone expect any common sense measures to control the ever growing carnage from firearms use?
The WH and Congress receive donations from plenty of donors. Many such donors own guns to protect themselves and others from the threat of criminals. How exactly, according to your twisted view, does the NRA control the White House or Congress? Hint: the NRA supports candidates who publicized their political platforms BEFORE the NRA made any donations. Would you donate to any political candidate whose platform wasn’t known to you before you wrote your check?
This is the same fear that was spread when the first polymer pistols came on the scene, you know like the Glock’s that the majority of Law Enforcement carry. As I mentioned to Rosenblatt above even if you did fully print a gun it would blow up in your hand when being fired with a .223 or 5.56 caliber cartridge as is used in the majority of AR-15’s. The pressure specs for these cartridges are all over 50,000 PSI. If you made this fully out of polymer it would blow up in your face. Add to that the metals contained in just the cartridge ie brass and lead and I do not believe you would be able to get the weapon through a properly functioning metal detector.
I don’t need to sneak anything through metal detectors. Just state what you have and they’ll make note of it and allow you to proceed (if you haven’t done anything illegal or possess anything you aren’t legally allowed to possess).

Thank you NJ – your taxes are ridiculous, but at least your gun laws make sense.
From what I recall the files contained it was only for What would be the serialized component of the gun. In the case of the AR 15 variants this would only be the lower receiver. see photo https://www.amazon.com/RECEIVER-DIAGRAM-GLOSSY-POSTER-PICTURE/dp/B01MU7P3V3/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1532712342&sr=8-2&keywords=ar-15+lower+receiver&dpID=51FrUN9aYoL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Great, now we can sneak these through metal detectors!
Captain,
This is the same fear that was spread when the first polymer pistols came on the scene, you know like the Glock’s that the majority of Law Enforcement carry. If this is all true. The threat level just went all the way down to – I really want to see some videos of guns exploding on people…..
mrbob, you are correct. These guns will blow up and more likely will kill or maim the shooter.
I don’t need to sneak anything through metal detectors. Just state what you have and they’ll make note of it and allow you to proceed (if you haven’t done anything illegal or possess anything you aren’t legally allowed to possess).
Thus far, my attempts to print fish with a 3-D printer haven’t succeeded. What resulted was not tasty.
Maybe your printer needs a tuna-p
