“The county’s policy is to pay new employees 5 percent more than they received in their previous job,”
More waste of our tax dollars! As a business owner, I try to hire people for what they can do for the company, and what that is worth to me. Giving them a 5% increase over their previous job is a joke and misuse of tax dollars. What if they got canned from their last job for incompetency or drinking on the job? Give them a 5% raise? What if they were a successful business owner who sold and is looking for a clerical job? Pay them 5% more than they are making?
Further, just because 2 people have the same job title doesn’t make them equal in how they perform the job. So why pay them equally if one consistently outperforms the other?
