“…Congress’s rumblings underscore a shift in public opinion that has already and likely will continue to drive states to legislate further in this area.”

Exactly what I have been saying in most forums with like subject-matter. Like it or not, this will be legal in all 50 in a decade or less. Employment practices need to be crystal clear to avoid EPLI suits. I believe employers should be able to terminate someone who uses on the job. We all know that MJ can stay in the system for up to 30 days. This is another reason, standing along with those who use and drive, for having technology that can assess the level of one’s toxicity. This will allow employers to further clarify. This way, an employee won’t be able to say, “Well, I used last night but never on the job.” No doubt, this type of technology will come to fruition. There are companies out there testing methods now. Once it is being utilized, the flood gates of the other states yet to legalize will open. And, the federal government will realize it needs to be on board as well.

Very true, it’s no longer a question of if, only when. We need people who understand the issues involved actually making the laws, no stodgy conservatives who don’t understand the item they’re dealing with. Thankfully public opinion and the knowledge widely available because of the internet these days is helping erase old myths regarding marijuana lowering IQ or leading to mental disorders without predisposition. Conservatives can’t suppress that when everyone with a phone knows what Google is.

Puff the Magic Dragon lives by the sea, but the law changed and he now can toke in the Midwest, with me.

One more issue small business has to deal with….

Oh, cry me a river. Employers have taken advantage of the American-worker for decades. Poverty level wages, large and over-qualified applicant pools and practically zero protections for the worker.

Roth- You do realize you don’t have to work for an “employer”. It’s called self-employment, opps, then you become one of those evil “employers”. Sounds like you have not thought things thru yet,
but usually happens to your type.

So your answer is if you don’t like employers, work for yourself? That’s ridiculous, even for you Jack. Companies profiting off of exploiting their workers is why 100 years ago we all worked six days a week for pennies on the dollar until we broke our backs and went destitute. We’re supposed to protect our citizens, not the wealthiest citizens exclusively. Get a clue, boomer.

I’ve been an employee and an employer and I’ll tell you there’s nothing like having to “make payroll” when funds are tight. Now when they hand out paychecks they have to check for pot compliance

My point was/is that compliance is more difficult for a small business person to deal with then for a large corporation with more resources, who can hire a compliance person with assistants. I just heard on the radio, so it must be right, that small businesses employ half of the people working. Compliance is more of a burden for small business as they may have to pull employees from revenue producing in order to work on compliance or hire a firm. A large business just adds the position.

Yeah, stereotypes are hilarious! As much as I know members of the right-wing like to pretend everyone who smokes marijuana is like this, the truth is the stereotype of the clueless stoner is outdated. You work with people who smoke marijuana and you would never know it because they don’t want you to know it. Average americans smoke, and none of us appreciate your attempts to belittle.
