State Farm said it plans to increase the size of its claims workforce throughout 2027 by about 10%, or about 3,000 employees.
In a Sept. 25 announcement, the mutual insurer said it is investing in training, developing, and recruiting to add to its 30,000 claims staff across the country. The company says hiring is already underway.
In total, Bloomington, Illinois-based State Farm said it will hire about 5,500 for claims through 2027, taking into account attrition, customer demand, growth.
The insurer said it handles nearly 11 million claims each year, enough to average more than one per day for each of the claims personnel it currently employs.
“When someone experiences an accident, storm, or other unexpected loss, they need knowledgeable people – supported by leading technology – who are ready to help,” said Chris Schell, executive vice president. “We’re investing in our Claims team so we can continue delivering the service our customers expect while giving our employees greater capacity to learn, develop, and build their careers.”
Additional claims staffing reflects growth at State Farm and the “evolving complexity of the claims environment.”
“New vehicles and technology, changing repair methods, and increasingly significant severe weather events continue to change the skills and capabilities required of claims professionals,” State Farm said. “As customer needs evolve, State Farm’s Human + Digital approach will continue pairing better tools and technology with the judgment, experience, and human connection of its people.”
