Louisiana Department Gets New Digs

February 20, 2003

The Louisiana Department of Insurance moved into new offices on Feb. 14, relocating to the new Poydras Building at 1702 North Third Street, Baton Rouge, 70802. The building is adjacent to the First Circuit Court of Appeal and just across Capitol Lake from its current location.

Acting Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley said the move was long overdue, noting that among other things, the old building was without a sprinkler system and failed to meet the state fire safety code. In addition, corroded pipes left all of the building’s water fountains contaminated.

Wooley said it would be more expensive to make the necessary repairs to the old building than what it cost to build the Poydras Building.

The new Department of Insurance building has a service center on the first floor for the convenience of consumers, and a technologically advanced hearing room, which is a vast improvement over the current Plaza Hearing Room.

The Department’s telephone numbers and P.O. Box will remain the same.
