A Tishomingo, Oklahoma, man will pay more than $8,000 in restitution after pleading no contest in Oklahoma County District Court to one count of workers’ compensation fraud, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said.
Jackey Wayne Newton, 43, was employed with Sundowner Trailers Inc. in Coleman, Okla., when he claimed he suffered a back injury while working as a shear machine operator. Newton was charged Jan. 30 after investigators reportedly determined he was building a bookstore during the time he was receiving temporary total disability payments from Sundowner’s insurance company.
In addition to paying $8,256.85 in restitution, Newton was ordered to serve a five-year deferred sentence and pay a $500 fine, a $250 victims’ compensation assessment and court costs.
