CAA Adds 32nd Member: Porter Insurance Agency

February 2, 2005

Austin, Texas-based Combined Agents of America LLC announced an increase in membership to 32 members with the addition of Porter Insurance Agency Inc. CAA added three members in 2004 and is again focusing on growth in 2005.

CAA is a managing general agency (MGA) committed to strengthening the independent insurance agency system through profitable growth, quality and service for its member agencies.

“Expanding throughout the state of Texas continues to be a major focus within CAA and we are thrilled to kick off 2005 with the addition of Porter Insurance Agency,” said Jim Whorton, CAA chairman and president of Whorton Insurance Services in Austin. “Representing the Brownwood area, Porter Insurance also broadens CAA’s distribution system into areas we previously did not have representation.”

Porter Insurance Agency has been family owned and operated for 65 years. Founded by S.F. Porter in 1940, his son, Gene Porter, joined the agency in 1946 after returning from World War II. Together, father and son led the agency until S.F. Porter died in 1958. Gene Porter continued to grow the agency, acquiring several smaller agencies over the years.

Today, Porter Insurance Agency is led by his sons, Robert Porter and Richard Porter. Robert is the agency’s president while Richard serves as the vice president/secretary. The agency provides both personal and commercial insurance, as well as life, health, and annuity products through the major insurance carriers.

“Upon attending our first CAA meeting, we realized the caliber of the member agencies, the professional manner in which CAA was organized, and the relationships among members with the insurance companies made this a truly unique entity,” said Richard Porter. “This was underscored by the fact that every member we met said it was the best move they had made for their own agency.”
