Pan-American Life Names Wilder Sr. VP

November 3, 2005

New Orleans-based Pan-American Life has announced the appointment of Charles Wilder as senior vice president for Product Management and Distribution Finance. Prior to joining the company full-time, Wilder had served as a consultant since April of 2005, working to improve the efficiency and profitability of insurance distribution.

“Developing profitable distribution is one of Pan-American Life’s strategic objectives, and over a distinguished career Charlie Wilder has demonstrated ability to drive sales results while managing distribution costs,” said José Suquet, president and CEO of Pan-American Life. “Already, we have begun to achieve efficiencies in our distribution system based on Charlie’s consulting work with us. We are gratified that he has decided to move into a full-time executive position.”

Prior to forming his own consulting practice, Wilder served as chief operating officer of AXA Distributors, where he oversaw annual third-party sales of $3.5 billion in annuities and $60 million in life insurance premium. At AXA Distributors, he was responsible for operations and financial management for the distribution of life insurance, annuities and proprietary mutual funds through a diverse network of agents and brokers.

These achievements capped a 32-year career at AXA and its predecessor entity, Equitable Financial. Joining the company in 1972, he held positions of increasing responsibility in a variety of key product areas including group pensions, group annuities, major medical, disability income insurance, and life insurance. For three years, he served as senior vice president of AXA Financial’s Client Relationship Group, managing a $600 million budget that included AXA’s career field force, third-party distribution, broker-dealer and general agency network.

In his consulting assignment for Pan-American Life, Wilder worked closely with the company’s Chief Executive Officer José Suquet to develop a plan for increasing sales results and reorganizing company resources. He also has applied his extensive prior experience in expense reduction and reorganization planning to the company’s initiative to develop cost-effective distribution channels.

Founded in 1911, Pan-American employs more than 900 worldwide, providing its life and disability insurance, worksite benefits and financial planning services in 42 states, the District of Columbia (DC) and Puerto Rico. Its international operations, offering life and group health insurance throughout Latin America, includes affiliates in Panama, Guatemala and Colombia, and branch offices in Ecuador, El Salvador and Honduras.
