A Lecompte, La., woman was charged with attempting to kill two Pineville police officers as she fled the scene of a routine traffic stop, Pineville Police Staff Sgt. Darrell Basco said.
Shelby Darlene Chambers, 45, was stopped Dec. 17 for no motor vehicle inspection sticker and no insurance, Basco said. When informed her vehicle would be towed, he said, she grabbed her expired driver’s license, jumped in her car and managed to start it as the officers attempted to pull her out of the car, he said.
She sped off, and one officer was struck in the hip and elbow by the door of her car, Basco said. The car ran over the other officer, barely missing his head, he said.
Chambers was chased to a gas station about four blocks away from the initial arrest scene, where she was arrested, Basco said.
Neither officer was seriously hurt, according to Basco.
Chambers also was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting and officer, aggravated flight from an officer and hit and run, Basco said.
She remains in the Rapides Parish Jail, he said.
