That’s the answer…make the insurance companies responsible for a database that involves police work. Another means to enrich the plaintiff’s bar when someone whose information is a couple of days behind is cited (or worse) for no insurance or some other related infraction. I can picture the plaintiff storm troopers marching into the Courts of TX with this one.
That is NOT the issue here in Texas…not exactly sure where you are, but this systme is modeled after the system in Utah where the uninsured motoris rate is in the single digits and has been that way for over ten years. In Texas, the uninsured motorist rate was somewhere near 30-35% – so, if you ARE a claim manager…..maybe this will help make your job a little easier!
Short sited or Big picture? Did anyone but me look at that $ figure. $6 Million Dollars of TAXPAYERS money is going to a system designed to COST the TAXPAYERS… Sounds to me like the Government and the Insurance Companies are in on this one. Not to mention the right to privacy that was signed with your insurance company. The amount of money that is paid and weather it is current or not is a civil issue. There is nothing criminal about it. Doesn’t the police need a warrant for this information? What next our SSN? Bottom line if you get into an accident and your insurance has lasped it is a civil issue not a criminal one. How about we put the $6 Million into the pot to lower insurance rates so that we can afford it along with the increased cost of living?
