Texas Agents Group, Tarrant County College Launch IRC Program

June 3, 2010

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) and Tarrant County College have initiated the Insurance Representative Certificate (IRC) program. The self-study, self-paced virtual program prepares individuals for the Texas General Lines Property and Casualty license exam, and provides the industry knowledge participants need to establish a successful career in insurance.

IRC was created for professionals with a busy lifestyle in mind. Users can access the program online and complete most of the courses from their computers through the online Virtual College of Texas. Completion of the program from start to finish should take 18 months, but the program’s self-study, self-paced flexibility allows for individuals to complete the courses at their own pace.

The program consists of four insurance courses and four office skills courses. Course titles include: Property/Liability Insurance Principles, Personal Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Insurance Customer Service Representative, Beginning Microsoft Word and Excel, Customer Service/Telephone Skills and Office Procedures. Individuals may be able to test out of the Microsoft courses or take them at their local community college.

Upon completion of the Insurance Representative Certificate (IRC) program, individuals will have:

  • Completed the review course and be prepared for the Texas General Lines Property and Casualty license exam;
  • Completed the requisite Office Career Program courses to enhance office skills; and,
  • Demonstrated commitment to becoming a qualified and productive member of the insurance industry.

The cost for the entire program plus the cost to take the exam is less than most semesters at a four-year institution.
