Lt. Donald McWhorter is the 2014 Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Fraud Unit Employee of the Year. McWhorter was recognized for his successful career in law enforcement and fraud investigation during the 16th Annual TDI Fraud Conference held at the Austin Convention Center April 29-May 1.
McWhorter specializes in health care fraud investigations. He began his career as a patrol and tactical operations officer with the Lubbock Police Department. He was a criminal investigator for the former Texas Department of Human Resources for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2002 as deputy inspector general responsible for 125 employees investigating fraud statewide.
McWhorter joined the TDI Fraud Unit in 2002 and was quickly promoted to senior sergeant in 2003. He has served as Lieutenant with the unit since 2009.
