The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded near Perkins, Okla., in Payne County on Dec. 4.
The USGS says the earthquake occurred at 9:54 p.m. about four miles northwest of Perkins. The epicenter is about five miles southwest of Stillwater and about 45 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
No injuries or damage were reported.
The earthquake was one of 16 small quakes recorded on Dec. 4 across Oklahoma starting early in the morning, and including a magnitude 3.5 temblor near Medford and a magnitude 3.4 quake near Guthrie.
Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely from quakes below magnitude 4.0.
