Texas Department of Public Safety says investigators are still trying to determine what caused a tractor-trailer to strike a partially constructed bridge over Interstate 35 in March, leading to the death of a motorist.
Senior Trooper Harpin Myers said that two factors in the Salado wreck were the inattentiveness of the rig’s driver, 41-year-old Valentin Martinez, and that he was hauling an illegal oversized load.
But Myers said investigators are still reviewing other factors, such as whether the rig had a mechanical failure.
An Arlington man was killed when a portion of a concrete beam landed on his pickup. Martinez and two others were injured. The Central Texas interstate was shut down for hours as crews worked to remove vehicles and debris.
No charges have been filed.
